Fisantekraal Pipeline

This contract presented a number of challenges. The pump station is the second largest sewer pump station in Cape Town and the excavation was over eleven meters deep. A total of 8900m3 had to be removed to create a stable platform for the pump station. This excavation was undertaken for the most part during a very wet winter and it was a challenge to keep pumping the groundwater during construction. 2,200m of concrete was used in the construction of the pump station. The pump station is fed by a 2km CAC gravity pipeline and 5,6km 825mm diameter GRP class 10 pipeline. The anticipated flow rate of raw sewerage is 5,000l /min.

TT Innovations, also part of the Martin & East group rammed a 1m diameter 45m length of pipe through an embankment in a groundbreaking trenchless operation on this project. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time that a pipe with this diameter has been rammed in South Africa.
